An independent editorial, research and data platform that helps people understand important subjects through context.
Why we exist
Facts arrive without their history.
Modern information gives us facts quickly and strips away the historical and systemic context that makes them meaningful. A figure can be accurate and still leave a reader with an incomplete - sometimes misleading - understanding.
ContextLens asks what happened, what preceded it, what changed over time, which patterns sit underneath, what the evidence actually shows, and what remains uncertain. It does not tell readers what to think. It shows how its conclusions were reached, so readers can judge them.
A fact on its own can be accurate and still produce an incomplete understanding.
What we do
- Research
- Long-run, structured programmes with stated methods.
- Data analysis
- Versioned indicators and datasets anyone can inspect and reuse.
- Interpretation
- Context and evidence, kept visibly separate from conclusion.
- Visual explanation
- Charts that say what they measure and where it came from.
What we don't do
- We don't publish breaking news.
- We don't offer an opinion on every event.
- We never start from a political or ideological conclusion and work backwards.
Fact + Context = Truth
A fact on its own can be accurate and still produce an incomplete understanding. ContextLens does not only publish conclusions. It lets readers see how those conclusions were reached - the sources, the method, the gaps, and the interpretation that sits on top of them.
- 1 · Evidence first
- 2 · Context before conclusion
- 3 · Separate fact from interpretation
- 4 · Make methodology visible
- 5 · Acknowledge uncertainty
- 6 · Correct errors transparently
